Block ads on Safari
Here are 3 tips to block adware on your Safari browser.
Use Safari Drive mode
To remove the pop-ups that attack you, there is a simple solution to adopt: use the Safari Player mode.
It is a blocker of adware but not that, in fact it also allows to lighten the interfaces loaded by other disruptive elements (banners, menus, sitelinks, videos …).
To enable it, open Safari and click on the Reader icon (three horizontal lines and a half) next to the search bar. The page will be clarified, will display text and images without embellishment.
On Sierra Safari, you can even set Player Mode to turn on automatically when opening a web page.
Right-click on the search bar and select Use drive automatically (site name) .
Block pop-ups via Preferences
Here’s how to easily put an end to pop-ups through Preferences.
For Safari 11 users, go to Preferences , select the Security tab and select the Block pop- ups check box .
If you are on Safari 12 go to Preferences , select the Web Sites tab and click on Popup Windows . At the bottom of the window, from the drop-down menu, select When accessing other websites , and then click Yes .
Prevent advertising tracking
Tracking allows sites to track users during an online session in order to create more effective advertising targeting.
To end this intrusive process, open Safari , go to Preferences , then click Privacy , then select the Prevent tracking on multiple domains option .
Block ads on Chrome
As with Safari, there’s a simple way to block pop-ups on Google Chrome.
Go to Chrome, go to Preferences, then to the Settings tab and then at the very bottom, click Advanced Settings .
In the Privacy tab , go to Content Settings and click on Popup Windows . Finally, choose Allow or Prohibit .
Block ads on Safari and Chrome with third-party software
Whether it’s Safari or Chrome, none of them automatically blocks ads. In addition to configuring their settings, you can use more powerful third-party software, such as AdBlock and AdGuard.
To make sure your Mac is safe and clean, we also recommend using CleanMyMac .
AdBlock is designed to process and block ads, pop-ups, but also to block videos in automatic play.
With AdBlock it is also possible to whitelist the sites where you want to continue to receive ads.
This software is free, very easy to use and it can be installed on your Mac, PC and your mobile devices. You’ll also find the AdBlock for Chrome extension in the Chrome Web Store .
`If you are looking for software with slightly more advanced features, we recommend AdGuard . It is available as a free extension but also a paid application.
If you opt for the paid version of AdGuard , then in addition to blocking adware and pop-ups, you’ll be able to hide your internet searches and protect your computer against phishing and malicious site attacks.
Finally, AdGuard preserves your privacy by hiding all your data against online analytics systems.
