How to Fix Destiny 2 Servers Down (Connection Issues)

It is not the first time nor will it be the last time that the Destiny 2 servers are down or unavailable.

Destiny 2 Servers Down: How to Fix Connection Issues

It can happen only to you, some players due to traffic or general Bungie issues. In any case, here are some solutions so you can try to get back into battle.

What to do if you can’t access Destiny 2?

The first thing you should do is read the in-game message. Most of the time it will tell you that a connection to the Destiny 2 servers could not be established. You already know there is a problem. The next step is to look at help.bungie.net or @BungieHelp on Twitter to check the status of the servers.

If the problem lies with Bungie’s servers, then you have nothing to do. You must wait for Bungie to notify you that they are active again. The Twitter account is very active and offers updates every few hours in these cases.

If the servers are up, then the problem is probably with your console or PC and/or your internet connection. If you have a console, then try these steps:

  1. Turn off the console.
  2. When the console is fully powered off, unplug the power cord from the back.
  3. Leave the console unplugged for five minutes.
  4. Plug the power cable into the console again and turn it on.
  5. Restart the Destiny game.

If this doesn’t work or you’re playing on PC, Bungie recommends a number of solutions on their website :

  • Bungie recommends using a wired connection to play Destiny. If this is not the case, avoid downloading games or using other programs (streaming, for example) while playing the game.
  • Try clearing the cache of your consoles or the download cache, if you are on PC, to try to resolve it.
  • Restarting the internet device might resolve the issue.
  • Review our guide on improving latency and packet loss to try to resolve the issue.
  • You can change your DNS server in the console to one of Google’s (8.8.8.8. or 8.8.4.4.).
  • If the issue is not resolved, please follow Bungie’s Network Troubleshooting Guide to optimize your connection to Destiny, or go to the Advanced Network Troubleshooting Guide for possible solutions related to UPnP, NAT, and Port Forwarding.
  • As a last resort, contact your internet service provider to see that they run a diagnostic and determine what your problem is.
