How To Change The Ringtone Of WhatsApp

Change the Ringtone of WhatsApp: Changing the WhatsApp ringtone is not a difficult undertaking at all but, since not everyone knows how fast it is as a procedure, most users keep the default ringtone, partly out of laziness and partly out of boredom.

However, it really takes a moment to change the notification sound of WhatsApp and, above all, not everyone knows that it is possible to select a different ringtone for each contact of WhatsApp. So let’s see how to change the WhatsApp ringtone, both on iPhone and Android.

Customize WhatsApp ringtone on iPhone (iOS 10 and earlier)

It is very simple to customize the ringtone of WhatsApp on iPhone and, in a moment, you can select both the notification sound for individual chats and that for groups.

The first thing to do is to start WhatsApp and click on the Settings icon, i.e. the one with the gear at the bottom right. At this point click on Notifications and here you can choose; depending on whether you want to set individual messages or groups, choose Sounds from Message notifications or Group notifications. The appropriate screen will open where you can choose from the numerous system ringtones which are right for you.

But before we talked about changing the ringtone for a single WhatsApp contact: how to do it? Again it’s very simple: open the Chat tab and look for the contact whose ringtone you want to change.

Then click on it and then click on your friend’s name, at the top of the screen: at this point click Custom notifications and then Sound messages, then selecting the notification you prefer.

If instead, you want to change the ringtone of voice calls, the procedure is a bit different, because WhatsApp uses the same ringtone as normal calls. In this case, therefore, you will have to go to Settings (the general iPhone ones, though!), Then Sounds and then Ringtone.

Customize WhatsApp ringtone on Android

Changing the WhatsApp ringtone on Android is just as simple: first of all, you obviously need to start WhatsApp, then click on the menu button at the top right (with the three dots!) And select Settings.

From here, click Notifications: you will then find two separate menus, for  Message notifications and Group notifications, click Notification tone under the item whose sound you want to change (single messages or groups), then select the ringtone you prefer and click Ok.

And how do you change the ringtone for a single WhatsApp contact? Nothing could be easier: from the chat screen, look for the contact whose sound you want to change, then click on the three dots at the top right and select Show contact.

Here you will find the Custom notifications item: click on it, then enable the homonymous voice at the top and click on Notification tone if you want to change the sound of chat messages or Ringtone if you want to change the ringtone of voice calls.

What if we wanted to change the general ringtone of WhatsApp voice calls? Very easy also in this case: from the generic screen of WhatsApp click on the three dots at the top right, then on Settings: as already said then click on Notifications and incorrect at the bottom up to the Ringtone item.
