1. Edit and convert your music

To begin customization, the first thing to do is to select a song on iTunes. Then here are the steps to follow:

  • Right click on the song.
  • Go to Song Info and click the Options tab.
  • Check the Start and End fields
  • Set which time of the song you want to use as a ringtone
  • Ok click

Then go to File → Convert → Create AAC Version . In this way, iTunes will duplicate the track, in just 10 seconds.

2. Rename the converted extension

To rename the extension of your music file in your iTunes, right-click on it and choose View in Finder .

You will need to convert this file to use as a ringtone. To do this, click on its name, then modify the extension by replacing .m4a with .m4r .

3. Copy the ringtone to your iPhone

To transfer music to your iPhone, you will need to use iTunes, connect your iPhone to your Mac and then click on the iPhone icon in the menu on the left.

In iTunes 12.4 (and later), click Music → Edit Menu and select the Alarms tag .

Finally, drag the .m4r file from the Finder window to iTunes.

4. Synchronize the ringtone on your iPhone

To sync your iOS with iTunes, connect your iPhone to your computer and click on the small phone icon . The iTunes Control Panel on your phone will then be displayed, click Alarms in the left column.

Then go to Synch. Alarms , choose Selected Alarms then the track you just created. Finally, click Apply .

5. Set up your new ringtone

Now that the music is on your phone, go to the settings of the phone, go to Sound and vibrations and then Ringtone. It remains only to select the created one.

6. Personalize the ringtone of your contacts

It’s easy (and convenient) to assign different ringtones to your contacts. For that :

  • On your iPhone, go to the Contacts app
  • Select your contact
  • Tap Edit
  • Go to the Add a ringtone option and choose a new one
