How to hide messages group notifications

Group messages can be collective iMessages, but also collective MMSs. Collective SMS do not exist. You can send the same SMS to a group of people, but the answers will be in their personal conversation.

Let’s start on iOS (iPhone and iPad)

The procedure for hiding notifications from the Messages groups on iPhone is the same as for the iPad. Here are 2 ways to proceed:

Method 1: Dragging

  • Open “Messages”;
  • Find, visually, the Message group to mute;
  • Put your finger on the conversation and drag it to the left;
  • Press “Hide Alerts”.

Method 2: Options

  • Open “Messages”;
  • Find the conversation and open it;
  • Click on the photo group of the participants;
  • Select “Info”, with the icon of an “i”;
  • Enable “Hide Alerts”.

Going back to the list of messages, you will see that there is a moon next to the conversations to indicate that the notifications are hidden.

Let’s finish on macOS

There is only one method on Mac, similar to the method on iOS.

  • Open “Messages”;
  • Find and enter the conversation;
  • Click on “Details”;
  • Check “Do not disturb”.

Like on iOS, you can see a moon that appears to the left of the conversation. You can recognize which notifications have hidden message groups.

Note that muting a conversion on one device does not automatically mute it on your other devices. This is a setting that does not synchronize.
