Forgotten password on iPhone: restore with iTunes
Before you begin, it is important to understand that to unlock the device we will present two methods that will restore your device and erase its data. However, if you had previously made a backup of your device, you can restore this backup and thus recover your data, otherwise, your data will be lost.
Solution # 1
If you’re used to regularly syncing and backing up your iOS device on your computer with iTunes, no problem, you can make a backup of the device again now before restoring it. Attention this solution can only work if Locate my iPhone was disabled on the device if it is not the case opt for solution # 2.
Connect your device to your computer and click Back up now.
Click Restore iPhone … (or Restore iPad … if it’s an iPad)
On your device, you will see a message asking you to select the restore method, choose Restore from iTunes. iTunes will then ask you to select the backup, check the date of the backups and select the most recent, if the backup is too old, all data after the backup will be lost. Your iPhone will then start restoring your backup and your password will be erased.
Solution # 2
If you were not used to syncing and backing up your iOS device on your computer, follow these steps:
Plug your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch into your computer, and turn on the DFU mode. If you do not know how to activate the DFU mode of the device.
Once the device is in DFU mode, iTunes will display a window telling you that it has detected a device in recovery mode (ie in DFU mode). You just have to click on the Restore button.
Once the restore is complete, restore the device backup to either iCloud or iTunes. Or, configure it as a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch as you like.
Forgotten password on iPhone: restore via the feature Locate my iPhone
This method is the simplest and the fastest. You will not need iTunes. All you need to do is access the icloud.com page from any computer or the Find My iPhone app from another iOS device connected to the same iCloud account as the device to unlock.
Be careful, however, this method can only work if the device to unlock is connected to the internet by 3G/4G or Wi-Fi. Also remember that this method will erase data from the device, make sure the device has already a backup on iCloud before proceeding.
Access the Find My iPhone app from an iPhone, iPad, or other iOS device connected to the same iCloud account as the device you want to restore. If you do not have an additional iOS device, go to icloud.com from your computer using your favorite browser (Firefox, Google Chrome or Safari).
Enter your iCloud username and password (the iCloud username and password are the same as those you use for the App Store).
You will see all devices connected to your iCloud account. Select the device you want to restore. Then, tap/click Clear iPhone.
Your iPhone will then automatically start the data erase program. Once the operation is complete restore your backup using iCloud or iTunes, and if you have no backup simply select Configure as a new iPhone.
