Tip : If you experience a completely blue or light blue screen with no text or error message, your computer may have a defective video card or monitor, resulting in a blue screen . If possible, try to check if your video card is having problems or if your monitor is defective.

Note : If you see a blue screen and your PC restarts immediately without being able to read the text on the blue screen, follow the steps below. If you can not access Windows to perform the steps below, start the computer in safe mode .

If you can not start in safe mode, corrupted Windows system files, a memory chip, or a bad hard drive may be corrupted. You must run hardware diagnostic tests to determine if the memory or hard drive is showing blue screen errors.

  • On the desktop or in the Windows Start menu, right-click My Computer or Computer.
  • Click the Properties option.
  • In the PC Properties, click the Advanced tab or the Advanced System Settings link.
  • On the Advanced tab, click on the Settings tab in the Startup and Recovery section.
  • In the Startup and Recovery window, clear the Restart automatically check box.
  • Click OK.

Blue screen errors

Almost all the versions of Windows have a blue screen error similar to the example below. These error messages often contain more detailed information and will contain information that can be searched for and found. If you do not receive a blue screen error similar to the example below, go to the next Fatal exception section.

Note: If you get the error as a plain blue screen without white text, you do not encounter a BSOD. This may be a problem with your video card, monitor or other hardware.

  1. Recognize the blue screen error containing all uppercase letters with underscores instead of spaces, as in the above example, BAD_POOL_HEADER. Note this information. If you do not see anything capitalized with underscores like this, skip this step.
  2. You get either the STOP message: error message at the top, or in the “Technical Information:” section of the error. For example, in the error above, it is STOP: 0x00000019, write the first part of this error message.
  3. Finally, if technical information is displayed, note the file and address.

Once you have the information above, you can begin to solve the problem. Typing the error code in the search engines will find you on pages containing the troubleshooting steps for some of these errors.

Fatal exceptions

Among the blue screen error messages that you will encounter with earlier versions of Windows, will be an exceptional error message or a Fatal 0E message.

If your blue screen message begins with a fatal exception 0E … or an exception …, you are experiencing this error. For these blue screen errors, follow the troubleshooting steps for fatal errors.
