Instead of a frenetic and visceral action in the hack ‘n’ slash style, here we have a slower exploration and some puzzles to solve so that we can advance in the plot, somewhat reminiscent of the rhythm of the classic The Legend of Zelda.
In this spin-off, we follow young Cereza before she becomes the Umbra Witch we know. During the journey, the protagonist can find items and ingredients forcreating potionsandunlocking new skills, enhancing both her performance and that of Cheshire, her possessed stuffed cat, which are the focus of this guide.
Creating potions
The creation of potions is unlocked right at the beginning of the adventure, but the recipes and ingredients are not free: it is necessary to obtain them while exploring the Avalon Forest, either in chests, bushes or by defeating enemies.
Once in possession of the necessary recipes and ingredients, we can create potions from the save points (checkpoints) in the Sanctuaries. Check below the effects of each of the tonics available in the game.
- Healing Tonic – Restores some of Cereza’s vitality. Ingredients: 5x Mandragora Root, 15x Baked Gecko, 10x Unicorn Horn
- Blast Cocktail – Creates a shockwave, immobilizing enemies around Cereza. Ingredients: 10x Mandragora Root, 30x Baked Gecko
- Purple Butterfly Potion – Makes Cereza temporarily invincible and has a reduced cooldown to cast spells. Ingredients: 30x Mandragora Root, 10x Baked Gecko, 10x Unicorn Horn
- Demonic Mist – Temporarily prevents Cheshire from spending magic. Ingredients: 15x Mandragora Root, 10x Baked Gecko, 35x Unicorn Horn
Expanding combat skills
In addition to the ingredients for creating potions, we find other types of items in the Avalon Forest: Onyx Roses, Moon Pearls and Inferno Fruits.
While the first two are easier to obtain, either on the way or by defeating Faeries, the latter are more costly to find, when points of interest are marked on the maps when completing the Tír na nÓgs of the area; even so, to find the Inferno Fruits in these places, it is necessary to do a very thorough search.
Skills are essential to progress more easily in the game. In more advanced moments, enemies begin to appear more frequently and in greater numbers, causing the unprepared player to win several game-overs in a row.
Just like potions, Cereza and Cheshire’s skills can also be boosted in Sanctuaries. Below we list what they are and what items are needed to learn them.
Cherry
- Witch’s Pulse – Hold ZL and move the L-stick at the right time to enchant objects and plants with magic. Skill learned during the story.
- Thorn Bind – Hold ZL to summon hellish thorns that bind enemies. Spends a cooldown bar. Skill learned during the story.
- Magic Share – Switch to Hug Mode mid-combat to recharge your magic. Skill learned during the story.
- Thorn Vice – Deals damage and increases immobilization time on enemies during moments of vulnerability. Skill learned during the story.
- Restoration Magic – Use Witch’s Pulse to fix broken objects. Skill learned during the story.
- Witch Time – Performing a perfect dodge with L before Cereza is hit will slow down time and Cereza and Cheshire will move at great speed. Skill learned during the story.
- Dodge Roll – Use the L-stick to dodge attacks. Cost to learn: 100x Onyx Roses
- Big Pockets 1 – Carry five units of each potion. Cost to learn: 200x Onyx Roses
- Big Pockets 2 – Carry seven units of each potion. Cost to learn: 400x Onyx Roses
- Big Pockets 3 – Carry nine units of each potion. Cost to learn: 700x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Mixing Potency – Increases the effectiveness of potions. Cost to learn: 550x Onyx Roses
- Absorption 1 – Using Thorn Bind on an enemy recovers some magic. Cost: 450x Onyx Roses
- Absorption 2 – Using Thorn Bind on an enemy recovers a fair amount of magic. Cost: 600x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Absorption 3 – Using Thorn Bind on an enemy restores a large amount of magic. Cost: 1000x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Venom Thorn 1 – Using Thorn Bind on an enemy will decrease their movement speed. Cost to learn: 450x Onyx Roses
- Venom Thorn 2 – Using Thorn Bind on an enemy will greatly decrease their movement speed. Cost to learn: 600x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Quick Recast 1 – Slightly increases the cooldown bar recovery speed. Cost to learn: 450x Onyx Roses
- Quick Recast 2 – Reasonably increases the recovery speed of the cooldown bar. Cost to learn: 600x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Infernal Bond 1 – Increases magic recovery while in Hug Mode. Cost to learn: 500x Onyx Roses
- Infernal Bond 2 – Greatly increases magic recovery while in Hug Mode. Cost to learn: 750x Onyx Roses
- Buddy Charge – Recovers magic instantly while in Hug Mode. Cost to learn: 1000x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Multi-Bind 1 – Increases the ability of the cooldown bar, allowing Cereza to use Thorn Bind twice in a row. Cost to learn: 800x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearls
- Multi-Bind 2 – Increases the ability of the cooldown bar, allowing Cereza to use Thorn Bind three times in a row. Cost to learn: 550x Onyx Roses, 2x Moon Pearl
- Multi-Bind 3 – Increases the ability of the cooldown bar, allowing Cereza to use Thorn Bind four times in a row. Cost to learn: 1400x Onyx Roses, 3x Moon Pearls
- Pick-Up Wave – Pick up Cheshire to create a shockwave that immobilizes surrounding enemies. Cost to learn: 700x Onyx Roses, 1x Moon Pearl
- Cheshire Reflect – When Cheshire is expanded in Hug Mode, press R to bounce projectiles. Cost to learn: 200x Onyx Roses

- Counter – Press R with Cheshire to return certain attacks. Skill learned during the story.
- Unbound Cheshire – Allows Cereza to ride Cheshire and invoke her true power. Skill learned during the story.
- Counter Rush – Attack after using Counter to deal AoE damage. Cost to learn: 550x Avalon Drops
- Plush Punch – While in Hug Mode, press ZR to have Cheshire attack an enemy and briefly distract them. Cost to learn: 50x Avalon Drops
- Demon Dodge – Use the R-stick to dodge with Cheshire. Cost to learn: 100x Avalon Drops
- Charge Strike – Use ZR to charge up power, then release to have Cheshire unleash a powerful attack. Cost to learn: 150x Avalon Drops
- Thick Skin 1 – Increases Cheshire’s Vitality a little. Cheshire reverts to her plush form when her health runs out. Cost to learn: 200x Avalon Drops
