To be sincere with you, I myself have sometimes had memory problems and I thought it was necessary to delete one or more applications to fix things, but I was wrong. If only I had thought of installing a virtual cleaner, I might have been able to spare this amputation from my Android smartphone.

Finally, the complete rewrite of this article allows me to learn – along with you – what applications are necessary for the survival of sufficient storage space in an Android device. If you didn’t know, a cluttered memory is never a good thing and can cause Android to slow down.

CCleaner: the best known

After a few hours of testing, the simplest file cleaner I found was that of Piriform. Already available on PC where it is emulated, CCleaner fulfills its task of cleaning perfectly. First, at the first launch, the application will offer to perform a scan of your device to eradicate the excess data.

Among them, you will be able to clean the application cache, the histories of your web browser, the files and folders that it estimates too much with a listing, the other cached data, the call log and the processes. That said, you don’t have to clean it all up, and you can limit the cleanup to history, for example.

Apart from its role as a cleaner, CCleaner can also take on the role of a manager of much more advanced applications than the one proposed by default in Android. For the third tab, it groups system information such as the system version, the time since it was turned on, status of root, WiFi, mobile network, RAM memory, internal storage space, the battery (level in% and temperature) and the processor.

From the settings, you can even customize what the application is authorized to analyze, but also install a quick cleaning widget on the home screen or even set up a selection of additional files and folders to clean. Clearly, this application is very comprehensive and above all free.

CCleaner is free and compatible from Android 4.0.3 on the Play Store.

  • App version: 4.8.1
  • App size: 22 MB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 4.1
  • Business model: free with in-app purchases

Files Go

Files Go is a file manager on Android. Although Google already offers a rudimentary native file manager in Android, the latter remains quite limited. Most importantly, Files Go offers more advanced features like the ability to detect duplicate files, junk files and other redundant files that can pollute your memory. You can also use the app to quickly share files directly with other users without an Internet connection. Finally, Files Go makes it easy to clear the cache and other unwanted folders.

  • App version: 1.0.177260766
  • App size: 17.444 MB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 5.0 or higher
  • Economic model: free

Avira Optimizer: lightning fast

After careful consideration, we simply decided to remove Clean Master from the list, which no longer had a place among the best cleaners on Android. Suddenly, we replaced it with two applications, and the first is none other than Avira Optimizer, with its flattened design in tune with the times and perfect fluidity.

When the application is opened for the first time, it will analyze the data stored in the smartphone directly, to tell you what is taking up extra memory. She will then be able to offer you cleaning. By clicking on one of the sections of the list, you will be able to access all of its options in the form of tabs: Cleaned memory, Manage applications, Optimize storage and Clean private data.

In the sector, Avira Optimizer is surely the lightest and simplest application I have been able to test (for now). Anyway, I can only advise this app. It is free on the Play Store:

  • App version: 1.4
  • App size: 5.70 MB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 4.0.3 or higher
  • Business model: free with in-app purchases

360 Security: beauty and regularity

Today, we are not going to talk about 360 Security for its antivirus, but for its memory optimizer. In addition to being able to ventilate and clean the memory of your Android, 360 Security is also capable of controlling the automatic start of all applications and this, without the obligation of having super-user (root) rights.

Heavier than its competitor Avira Android Optimizer, 360 Security is nonetheless a very fluid application to use. Side interface, it is rather well drawn and shows the example by adopting Material Design.

  • App version: 5.0.6.3505
  • App size: 20.2 MB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 4.1 or higher
  • Business model: free with in-app purchases

SD Maid: the must-have

In this area, the best of the best applications to clean your Android is SD Maid. Offered in two versions, you are a lot to swear by it. In its free version, SD Maid is able to search for unused data, clean the system and the database of your Android. That said, the Pro version is more consistent by offering an application cleaner and duplicate file finder.

Personally, I am a big fan of the interface with a very discreet Material Design. In addition, the list of parameters is quite long and can be personalized on the fly: by displaying or not displaying certain sections, but also by modifying them, thanks to a menu of parameters specially developed for each of them. An unpretentious application which has the merit of being better known and which offers a Pro version at 2.99 euros.

  • App version: 4.8.3
  • App size: 5.75 MB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 4.1 or higher
  • Economic model: free

DiskUsage: the app that has eyes everywhere

This application is somewhat different from the previous ones, but it will still play an indirect role on your memory: DiskUsage allows you to see all the files and documents that occupy memory space on your Android, in a fairly visual way which allows you to quickly understand what is in excess.

  • App version: 4.0.2
  • App size: 204.2 KB
  • Compatibility of the app: Android 4.1 or higher
  • Economic model: free

DiskUsage

Instead of offering you a list of uninteresting applications, we preferred to restrict our choices to the most effective. Again, I maintain my position on CCleaner which I consider better finished in every respect, even if Clean Master is a laudable alternative which offers a wider range of functionalities, but too many advertisements.
