Setup Wifi: Do you know that box full of lights that you have on the cabinet? It’s called a Modem and, among many things, it gives you access to the Internet. Did you know that you can connect your new, free-range mobile phone to the Modem? So will you be able to access the Internet? Yes, you got it right.
How to Setup Wifi in Your Smartphone
You don’t need any cablesbecause the connection will be via Wi-Fi, or without the aid of wires. It’s not magic, it’s just technology (we should patent this sentence!). Let’s take an overview.
What is WiFi
Don’t confuse the Wi-Fi system with 4G. Without going into technicalities that we don’t need, Wi-Fi allows you to take advantage of an Internet connection via the Modem of your home, office or any other place that has one, after using a password.4G, on the other hand, provides Internet access on the move, wherever you are (as long as there is a field), but often it must be subject to the limits of the telephone tariff plan.
This means that, with 4G, you will be able to surf for a certain period of time, within a certain threshold of Gigabyte, according to the contract entered into. Consequently, for the initialization of the phone or to download the apps, we recommend a Wi-Fi connection, so you will not have to worry about the GB limits.
It all depends on your situation: if you have a 4G plan with lots of GB and you don’t know what to do with it, you can also draw from there. But if you are at home and have fiber, why should you consume it?
Configure Wi-Fi
The Wi-Fican be found in the notification menus, but you can also go to theSettingssection , from the Drawer, so you take a more complete tour and begin to absorb the navigation as daily operations. This time, however, let’s make a small schemino. maybe it’s more convenient for you:
- Open theSettings
- Go toConnectionsorWireless and NetworksorNetwork and Internet(depending on your device)
- Press onWi-Fi
- Turn onWi-Fi
You will now notice that all available networks will begin to appear. So,select yours(the name of your network is on the Modem, on a label) andthen enter the password(you can also find this on the Modem). Well, you’re connected to the Internet! You will see a “fan” icon (the same as above) in the notification bar that will confirm the connection.
Did you know that …there arepublic Wi-Fi? Who do not need passwords for access? But be careful: if it is free it does not mean that it is free and that you can navigate without restrictions. In fact, many hotels and different clubs use the registration on a special web page in order to use their connection. As a result, if you find a free network, you may still need to.
It does not connect to Wi-Fi
If you are unable to connect your device to any Wi-Fi network, you will need to be patient first. Don’t lose heart. First, you need to make sure you’re not too far from the Modem.
Then, if your network still does not appear among those nearby, tryrestarting the device and the Modem(you can unplug and reattach the power cable of the router).
Furthermore, if they are not, you shouldturn offtheairplane modeorenergy saving, because these options block or hinder access: went in the pull-down notifications menu to turn them off.
If your network appears but the phone doesn’t connect, you may want to trydeleting that network, then start the configuration procedure again. We will immediately explain how to do it.
Delete a Wi-Fi network
To “forget” a Wi-Fi network, you have to go back to the Wi-Fi menu, the same as in the configuration, and use the gesture of pressing your finger on the network you wish to delete, or press the gear next to the network name.
A new menu will open, from which you can selectDeleteorForget, depending on the device in your possession.
After that, as mentioned, you will have to start the configuration procedure described above: before starting, we recommend you to deactivate and reactivate the Wi-Fi of the phone, so that it can make a new search for the adjacent networks.
Connect via WPS
WPS stands for Wi-Fi Protected Setup and you can learn more here. It is a button, normally located on the back or on the side of the Modem, through which you can facilitate the connection between the phone and the network, without you having to enter the password.
Simply go to theWi-Fimenu again , press the three dots at the top right and selectAdvanced(it could also be calledSettings).
After that, you will have to go toWPS Connectionon your smartphone to start synchronization, and, immediately afterwards, you will need to press the WPS button on the Modem Router.
You have to keep in mind though that not all devices have this option.
Use Wi-Fi Direct
The Wi-Fi Direct instead allows the connection between smartphones without the intermediation of a Modem Router. This is a sort of evolution of Bluetooth: you can exchange files at lightning speed (for example, if you have high resolution photos, we recommend you send them in this way, because apps like WhatsApp compress them), or you can connect to equipment such as printers to print documents on the fly.
Just go to theWi-Fimenu (you should know it by now) and look for theWi-Fi Directoption. You can find it in different positions depending on the model of your smartphone: next to the three dots at the top right, in the Advanced menu (the same as the WPS) or even at the end of the list of nearby networks.
The same operation must be done by the device you want to connect to.
After that, to send a file, you must first select it, and then press theShare button: instead of selecting for example a friend’s WhatsApp contact, choose Wi-Fi Direct to be able to start transmitting the file.
Check out the notifications to track the delivery. Once finished, remember to disconnect the device in the same way you connected it, because Wi-Fi Direct consumes battery.
