There are several ways to Stream Podcasts to Your Sonos Player, whether from the Internet, your computer, or from a mobile device like a phone or tablet.
Stream Podcasts to Your Sonos Player
The Sonos system offers many versatility and functionality. Setting up is a virtual child’s play. From there, you can do a number of cool things by adding streaming music services and using them as sleep timers or alarms. Podcasts are no different.
Stream podcasts directly from the Internet
If you want to stream podcasts from the Internet, search for the Sonos software.
First click on button “Radio by TuneIn” in the music liberary.
Then select the “Talk” from the list of results and then click on “Podcasts”.
You can select any podcast from the selection and then click the small arrow to the right of your selection. You can then play it, add it to your favorites, and view all available information and options.
The number of podcasts is relatively large and there is a chance that you will not see your favorite podcast in the TuneIn selection. In this case you can try stitcher or spreaker. These are streaming services that you can add. Note that you may need to create accounts for these streaming services in order to use them.
If you really don’t like these options, you can also stream podcasts from your computer.
Stream podcasts from your computer
If you want to download the podcast files to your computer using a program such as iTunes or MediaMonkey, you must share the folder where you will save your podcasts. To do this, open the desktop app in Sonos on your computer. Click “Manage” and then “Music Library Settings”.
The “Manage” menu is the same, whether on a PC or Mac
On the Settings screen, you need to add the location where you want to save your podcasts. Click the “+” icon on a Mac or “Add” on a PC.
If your podcasts are in your default music folder, leave this option unchanged. If they are saved in another location, navigate to that location and select that location.
Your podcasts are listed in the app underMusic Library> Artist. Depending on whether a podcast provides metadata, you can alsoviewit underMusic Library> Genre> Podcasts.
Unfortunately, every time you add new podcasts, you have to re-index your music library. Click on “Manage” button and then on “Update Music Library Now”.
Stream podcasts from your phone or tablet
If you want to stream podcasts from your smartphones, you can do that too.
On iOS
Your iPhone or iPad is preinstalled with a podcast app. So if you subscribe to and download new episodes, they will automatically become available in the Sonos app. Just tap on the music menu and then on “On this iPhone”.
Now tap on “Podcasts”.
All of your downloaded podcasts are available here so you can easily stream them to your Sonos player or players.
Finally, we turn to Android and show you how you can do this from this platform.
On Android
On Android, you need to download podcasts to the Podcasts folder in your home directory. How you do that? It’s pretty simple, but not very practical. Let us show you how.
On most Android devices, everything you download is automatically saved in the download location. This means that you have to copy or move all podcasts from this folder to the podcasts folder (unless they are already stored there).
One way to do this is to use a file management tool (many of which are available on the Play Store). In this case, we use the popular Astro app. We select our podcast that we just downloaded and postpone it.
Here you can see the podcasts directory in the root directory of the Android storage system to which we are moving our podcast files.
Once you’ve moved there (you should probably download and move all podcasts at once, and not one by one), you can now find them in your Sonos app.
Open the music menu and select “On this mobile device”.
Then select “Podcasts” from the choices.
You should now be able to view and play all podcasts on your Android device.
It’s not as easy as it is on iPhone or iPad, but once you get the hang of it, you shouldn’t have any problems.
Of course, there are other easier ways to listen to podcasts on your Android device. To send this audio to your Sonos player, you have to jump through some tires. Overall, however, it’s easiest to Stream Podcasts to Your Sonos Player
